A Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet site near Turkey measured severe wind gusts from 0008 CST through 0009 CST. A peak wind gust of 60 mph was measured at 0008 CST.
Wider weather episode
A cluster of thunderstorms developed in eastern New Mexico and tracked to the southeast into the extreme southern Texas Panhandle and northern South Plains during the late evening hours. Very strong thunderstorm outflow winds produced several severe wind gusts across the area.
