A Texas Tech University West Texas mesonet site near Tulia measured severe wind gusts from 0455 CST through 0457 CST. A peak wind gust of 64 mph was measured at 0456 CST.

Wider weather episode

Isolated thunderstorms developed off of an outflow boundary early in the morning of the 23rd that moved into the region from the north from a decaying mesoscale convective system. One of these storms produced a severe wind gust near Tulia.
