Drier than normal conditions resulted in severe drought conditions for 590 square miles or 100% of Richland County through June.

Wider weather episode

A lack of rainfall and warmer than average temperatures resulted in severe drought conditions developing in southwest Wisconsin in the middle of June. Between April 1st and severe drought development by June 20th in Grant, Crawford, and Richland counties, a total of 2 to 5 inches rain fell. This was 4 to 8 inches below normal, or 25 to 50 percent of normal. The largest rainfall deficit was recorded at the automated weather observation station in Boscobel (Grant County) at 7.84 inches below the normal of 11.51 inches.
