Public reported hail larger than a quarter and small than a golf ball.

Wider weather episode

Semi-discrete to clustered storms developed along a surface trough in the mid-afternoon in southern South Dakota and northeast Nebraska. Initial updrafts produced large hail with a 2-inch hail stone reported near Niobrara. Strong wind gusts developed later causing widespread tree damage and destroyed a church steeple in Wausa. The strongest measured wind gust was 63 mph near Magnet.
