A large area of high pressure shifted westward from the four corners region into central California on August 14 resulting in a period of significant heat across the area between August 14 and August 17 High temperatures across much of the San Joaquin Valley, West Side Hills and lower Sierra foothills ranged between 104 and 109 Degrees F each day during this period. The high weakened on August 18 which allowed for a cooling trend to take place beginning on August 18.
