Thunderstorms developed over southwest and west-central North Dakota after skies cleared and instability increased in an atmosphere with elevated deep layer shear. Some of the storms became severe over southwest North Dakota. The strongest wind gust report of 66 mph occurred near Marmarth in Slope County, and the largest hail size report of 1.75 inches in diameter was near Rhame in Bowman County.
