Event narrative

In Claremont, rapid run-off from a thunderstorms caused the Quabbinnight Brook to overflow that washed out a portion of Chestnut Street.

Wider weather episode

Localized flash flooding was observed after thunderstorms trained over portions of western New Hampshire on the afternoon of the 4th. The airmass was anomalously moist supporting rainfall rates over 2 inches per hour. The heavy rain fell over already saturated ground conditions which resulted in rapid runoff. The storms were fairly localized which limited their impact.
