These wind speeds were estimated from a spotter in town who heard a roaring sound with the wind. During this time the ASOS at the airport measured a peak gust of 72 MPH.
Wider weather episode
A cluster of thunderstorms moved eastward across Northwest Kansas. Hail up to lime size and wind gusts up to 110 MPH were reported with these storms. The strongest storms were over Graham and Norton counties. The storm in Almena area was particularly intense in which mature tree trunks were snapped among other damage.
