A potent backdoor cold front surged southward into northeastern NM on November 20th. Aided by strong winds aloft and mountain wave activity allowing these winds to crash to the surface south of Raton Pass, the Raton Airport measured a peak wind gust of 63 mph. These winds also combined with blowing snow to cause hazardous winter travel conditions from I-25 eastward toward Folsom along New Mexico Highway 72.
