Severe (D2) Drought arrived in Willacy County on the 26th of September, as positive effects from 1 to nearly 3 inches of rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Harold dried up in the record heat and low monthly rainfall (10-25 percent of average). Conditions covered all of western Willacy, and the northern third, including Raymondville, La Sara, and San Perlita.

Wider weather episode

The somewhat wet benefits from Tropical Storm Harold on August 22nd-23rd, 2023, were erased in Willacy and Kenedy County by the end of a record-hot September in these areas, when monthly rainfall averaged 10-25 percent of average for the wettest month on average of the calendar year. Severe (D2) conditions arrived on September 26th and continued into early October.
