The first freeze of the season brought an end to the growing season. Low temperatures in Southern Illinois were from 21-29 degrees. A cold front plunged into the Deep South, resulting in northwesterly winds bringing in strong cold air advection late in the day on the 30th. An approaching secondary cold front and a 1036 mb high over the Dakotas reinforced the cold air, with widespread hard freeze conditions Halloween morning.
