Drought — Sawyer, Wisconsin
2023-10-01 to 2023-10-31 · Sawyer, Wisconsin
Event narrative
Almost all of the county began October in D2 Severe Drought outside of a very small area of D1 Moderate Drought in the far southern part of the county. Rainfall from late September and the early part of October led to a reduction of D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 3rd leaving the far northern and south-central and eastern parts of the county in D2 Severe Drought with D1 Moderate Drought elsewhere. Further reduction of D2 Severe Drought was seen with the update on the 31st becoming confined to the northeastern corner of the county with a small tail into the central part of the county. The remainder of the county was covered by D1 Moderate Drought with a few very small areas of D0 Abnormally Dry across the far southern part of the county. Rainfall for October was near to slightly below normal.
Wider weather episode
Drought conditions persisted across northwest Wisconsin during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed by the end of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
