Drought — Washburn, Wisconsin

2023-10-01 to 2023-10-10 · Washburn, Wisconsin

Event narrative

October began with D2 Severe Drought across almost all of the county. Rainfall from late September and the early part of October led to the removal of almost all of the D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 3rd leaving only a very small area of D2 Severe Drought in the far northwest corner. D1 Moderate Drought was in place across the remainder of the county. The last bit of D2 Severe Drought was removed with the update on the 10th with no further changes over the remainder of the month. Rainfall for the month was near to slightly below normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northwest Wisconsin during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed by the end of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
