Drought — Burnett, Wisconsin

2023-10-01 to 2023-10-10 · Burnett, Wisconsin

Event narrative

October began with D2 Severe Drought across the northern and far eastern areas of the county with D1 Moderate Drought across the remainder of the county. Rainfall from late September and early October led to almost the complete removal of D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 3rd aside from a tiny area in the far northeastern corner of the county. D2 Severe Drought was completely removed from the county with the update on the 10th, leaving a mix of D0 Abnormally Dry and D1 Moderate Drought in place for the remainder of the month. Rainfall for October was near to slightly below normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across northwest Wisconsin during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed by the end of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
