While volunteer observers reported only 1 to 2 inches of snowfall from late on October 30th through the morning of October 31st, the combination with 40 mph wind gusts rapidly worsened road conditions. These slippery to hazardous travel conditions resulted in multiple slide offs reported across the county.
Wider weather episode
An intensifying storm system sagged through northeast Iowa overnight from October 30th through October 31st. While maximum snow accumulations were only 1 to 2 inches for counties along the Minnesota border, the combination of strong winds and intense snow bands quickly resulted in slippery to hazardous road conditions. As the bands of snow quickly passed through the area, visibilities were reduced to less than a mile and resulted in numerous automobile accidents.
