Drought severity decreased from extreme (D3) to severe (D2) in early December.

Wider weather episode

Abnormally dry weather from October through November for much of Central Alabama continued into December. Although rainfall totals began increasing during the month, some areas remained in Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) drought conditions.
