Event narrative
The southeast Vaughn mesonet station measured an hour of high sustained winds peaking at 44 mph.
Wider weather episode
Strong westerly flow over northern and central NM at the southern edge of an upper level disturbance was observed on January 17th. Some of these high winds aloft crashed to the surface east of the central mountain chain producing sporadic high wind gusts at several locations during the morning hours. Westerly winds turned northwesterly on January 18th with high wind observations becoming isolated to western Guadalupe County during the morning hours. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
