Trees were downed along Highway 84 just west of Winnfield.

Wider weather episode

Several strong to severe thunderstorms developed along an advancing cold front in Deep East Texas and North Louisiana on the afternoon and early evening of December 9th. Observed sounding data indicated cooling aloft and erosion of a capping inversion around 800 millibars. As the inversion further eroded and forcing was maximized along the cold front, the threat for large hail increased as storms remained rather discrete. As thunderstorm coverage increased by late afternoon into the early evening, storm mode gradually became more linear with time as the upper-level trough pivoted east. At that time, damaging winds became the primary threat near the end of the event. Numerous reports of large hail were received along with a few damaging wind reports throughout parts of North Louisiana.
