Event narrative

A winter storm impacted the area and resulted in the closure of I-80 from Evanston, WY to Lyman, WY from approximately 11:30 am MST 1/12 to 6:30 am MST 1/13. Strong winds were also observed with this storm. A wind gust of 61 mph was recorded by the Evanston-Uinta County Airport - Burns Field ASOS, and a peak gust of 64 mph was recorded by the I80/US189 - First Divide mesonet station. Other mesonet stations in the area showed frequent gusts at or above 50, and periods of sustained winds in excess of 40 mph.

A strong winter system brought strong winds and snow to areas across southwest Wyoming.
