Wider weather episode
Low pressure tracking to the west of Pennsylvania was preceded by warm advection and a strong low-level southeasterly jet of 70-80 knots. Gusts approaching 50 mph were observed across the Laurel Highlands January 12-13, 2024. Once this system passed and dragged a cold front across the area, blustery west-northwesterly winds behind the cold front gusted to 60 mph at a couple of spots in south-central Pennsylvania.
