Event narrative

Snow squalls arrived in Western Maine during the afternoon on the 17th. The webcam at the Naples Causeway observed visibility dropping below one quarter mile, with a quick, light accumulation on the road. The squalls lasted about 20 minutes at any given location before conditions improved. Snowfall amounts were generally less than 1 inch.

Wider weather episode

Early on the 17th a coastal storm passed well south of New England, with light snow just barely reaching southern New Hampshire. A trailing shortwave trough drove a strong cold front through the Saint Lawrence River Valley early in the morning. The cold front crossed the international border and into western Maine after sunrise on the 17th. As daytime heating increased the low level instability, snow showers along the front became more organized and a broken band of snow squalls swept towards the Mid-coast during the afternoon.
