Event narrative

A mix of light rain and light freezing rain overspread the area January 22nd, before becoming mainly freezing rain during the evening hours. Precipitation continued into the early morning hours of January 23rd, eventually changing over to rain. Ice accumulations of up to 0.10 inches were reported leading to hazardous travel conditions. Car accidents and slide-offs were reported in the Fort Wayne vicinity.

Wider weather episode

A mix of light snow and light freezing rain overspread northwest Indiana during the morning and early afternoon of January 22nd, and a larger area of freezing rain affected much of northern Indiana from the late afternoon of January 22nd to the early morning hours of January 23rd. Ice accumulations were generally less than one tenth of an inch, but localized areas received ice accumulations between one and two tenths of an inch. Hazardous travel conditions were reported across the region.
