Event narrative
A winter storm brought an initial period of rain during the evening hours of February 12th transitioned to snow in Cumberland County and produced 5 to 7 inches of snow during the morning hours of February 13, 2024. The heavy snowfall, coupled with gusty winds, throughout the day on February 13 produced numerous power outages throughout the county prompting a warming shelter to open.
Wider weather episode
A quick-moving area of low pressure pushed from the Lower Ohio Valley across the central Appalachians and off the Delmarva Coast from the evening of February 12 into the morning of February 13, 2024. This system pushed rain into Pennsylvania that quickly changed over to wet snow from north to south. The swath of heaviest snowfall extended from the middle Susquehanna Valley eastward into the Poconos, where 7 to 12 inches of snow fell.
