A strong storm system brought gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and high elevation wet snow to southern Vermont from the afternoon hours on January 9 into the early morning hours on January 10, 2024. Between 5 and locally 10 inches of snow fell across portions of the southern Greens along with a light accumulation of sleet and freezing rain before changing over to plain rain. The snow resulted in the activation of the Chain-Up Law along Vermont Route 9 between Bennington and Wilmington. On the warmer side of this system, between 2 and 3 inches of rain fall across the Connecticut River Valley but did not result in any widespread flooding. In addition, localized wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph occurred across Bennington County.
