Exceptional Drought (D4) conditions improved to Severe Drought (D2) conditions by the end of the month.
Wider weather episode
Exceptional (D4) drought conditions and Extreme (D3) drought conditions continued across north Mississippi during much of January as below-normal rainfall and warmer-than-normal temperatures started the month. Mid to late month a cold snap and heavy snow event brought wetter conditions and below-normal temperatures to Mississippi. Lake and river levels started the month below normal flow, but upstream snowmelt was able to increase flow to near and above normal. Drought conditions improved toward the end of the month.
