Wider weather episode
Several days of winter weather began with narrow, heavy snow bands from late January 8th through January 9th from western into central Wisconsin. Initial narrow snowfall bands traversed the Mississippi River into far southwest Wisconsin overnight, rapidly deteriorating road conditions. Interstate 94 East was closed near Oakdale (Monroe County) for an overturned semi-truck early on January 8th at initial snowfall onset. While these initial bands of snow pushed through west-central Wisconsin, subsequent narrow bands of heavy snow with more than 1 per hour snowfall rates persisted and lingered from southwest into central Wisconsin into the evening hours. The Trempealeau County Sherriff's Office reported a vehicle rollover into a creek during this time. A result of the snowfall bands, highest storm total snowfall accumulations of 6 to 10 were constrained in a narrow swath from far southwest Wisconsin into central Wisconsin. Strong winds of 30 to 45 miles per hour perpetuated travel impacts into January 10th, resulting in numerous slide offs. Highest storm total snowfall reports were 13.2 in Prairie du Chien (Crawford County) and 12.0 in Muscoda (Grant County).
