Event narrative

Snowfall totaled 2.8 inches 5 miles north-northwest of Holstein, 2.5 miles in Ida Grove and near Arthur, and 2.2 inches 3 miles northeast of Battle Creek. Visibility was as low as 1/2 mile at times of falling snow in the afternoon hours.

Wider weather episode

A clipper system in northwest flow traversed the edge of the arctic airmass, and brought a pulse of warm advection which resulted in a brief burst of moderate snowfall. Accumulations ranged from 1 to 5 inches, with some areas of blowing snow from northwest wind gusts as high as 20 to 30 mph.
