Light snow developed on the evening of March 31st as a broad area of low pressure to the south spread moisture across the Dakotas over the course of a 24 hour period. While light snow was widespread, a band of heavier snow concentrated across central/south central South Dakota on the morning of April 1st. CoCoRaHS observers, one 3 miles northwest of Okaton and the other 11 miles northeast of Pierre both measured 9 inches of snow. The COOP observer in Murdo measured 8.4 inches while those in Gann Valley and Hayes recorded 8 inches as well. Several slide-in photos were posted by the emergency managers and towing companies that service Interstate 90.
