Wider weather episode

Strong winds swept across the region in the late afternoon of February 15, 2024. This was caused by a combination of factors: deep mixing near the ground, daytime heating from the sun, and a powerful low-level jet stream with winds between 50 and 60 knots. Some of the strongest wind gusts were associated with passing showers that pulled the strong winds down to the ground. The highest gust measured was 58 mph, recorded at Latrobe Airport during a shower.
