A low pressure system tracked off the East Coast and brought a period of snow to much of eastern New York during the daytime hours on January 28, 2024. By the overnight period and into the morning hours on January 29, 2024, precipitation transitioned to a wintry mix and/or eventually plain rainfall.

Snowfall amounts were highest across the Schoharie Valley, Helderbergs and eastern Catskills where 6 to 10 inches of snow occurred. Elsewhere, snowfall amounts ranged from less than one inch to 4 inches across the valleys to 5 to 6 inches across other higher terrain areas.

Slippery travel conditions resulted in some vehicle accidents across eastern New York. In addition, some power outages were reported including in Schoharie, Washington, Albany, Columbia and Rensselaer counties. A number of schools delayed the start of classes on January 29 due to the wintry weather conditions.
