A strong upper-level system moved slowly across the region, bringing beneficial precipitation to much of western South Dakota. Significant precipitation in the form of rain and snow fell across the northern and central Black Hills and adjacent plains, where 1 to over 3 inches of liquid equivalent precipitation was recorded. Snowfall was heaviest over the higher elevations of the northern Black Hills, where around a foot of heavy, wet snow accumulated. Across the central Black Hills, the lower elevations of the northern Black Hills, and portions of the northern and eastern foothills, accumulations of 2 to 8 inches were common. Patchy areas of accumulating snow, up to a few inches, were also noted across the adjacent plains during the early morning hours of the 7th.
