Drought — Medina, Texas

2024-02-01 to 2024-02-29 · Medina, Texas

Event narrative

Inconsistent precipitation across South Central Texas left the drought unchanged in most counties. Bandera and Kendall Counties remained in Extreme (D3) Drought. Blanco, Gillespie, Kerr, Medina, and Williamson Counties remained in Severe (D2) Drought. Area reservoirs continued to be below normal conservation pool level. Medina Lake dropped 0.8 feet and was 90.4 feet below normal. The Edwards Aquifer dropped 4.2 feet and was 27.1 feet below normal. Most public water systems encouraged at least voluntary water restrictions and many had mandatory restrictions in effect. Some of the larger services had the following: Fredericksburg Stage 4, Georgetown, and Kerrville Stage 2. At the end of the month, the 7-day average streamflow was much below (<10%) normal on the Medina, Pedernales, and upper Guadalupe Rivers. The San Gabriel River was below (10%-24%) normal. Of the counties in D2 or worse drought only Medina had an outdoor burn ban in effect at the end of the month.
