Event narrative

D2 Severe Drought persisted across the southern three-quarters of the county to begin the month with the remainder of the county added to D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 19th. A major system brought precipitation to the region over the following week and led to the removal of almost all of the area of D2 Severe Drought across the county aside from far eastern areas with the update on the 26th. Precipitation for the month was up to three-quarters of an inch above normal.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions persisted across parts of northwestern Wisconsin during the month of March. Areas of D2 Severe Drought covered parts or all of Iron, Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer and Price counties at the beginning of the month with a slight expansion across much of the remainder of Ashland and Iron counties with the update on the 19th. Bayfield, Sawyer and Price counties were removed from D2 Severe Drought with the update on the 26th along with a reduction of area across Ashland and Iron counties. Precipitation for the month ended up around one-half to one inch above normal with 10 to 20 inches of snowfall falling over the course of the month as well.
