Event narrative

Visibility dropped to one-half mile or less for roughly one to two hours due to a combination of wind gusts as high as 43 mph at a personal weather station in South Sioux City and snowfall which was generally around one-half inch at Emerson and Sioux City. Travel conditions were poor during the lowest visibility.

Wider weather episode

Behind an arctic front, a narrow band of light to moderate snowfall and winds gusting from 35 to 55 mph resulted in visibility reductions of one-half mile or less. Travel conditions were briefly quite hazardous, but any blizzard or near blizzard conditions typically lasted for a couple of hours or less.
