Wider weather episode
An upper-level disturbance was moved across Colorado along with a backdoor front draped across northeast NM. Higher moisture and upslope flow were in place north and east of the front. Daytime heating in the afternoon, along with lift from upper-level disturbance and backdoor front allowed storms to develop in far northeast New Mexico moving to the northeast with time. Two storms produced quarter size diameter hail in Grenville and Clayton. Storms exited east into the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles during the evening hours.
