Highest wind gust recorded in western Albany county.

Strong winds developed in the wake of a strong cold frontal passage on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 28th through the morning of Thursday, February 29th, 2024. Wind gusts throughout eastern New York ranged from about 30-65 mph. Thousands of people were reported to have lost power and numerous trees and wires were reported to have fallen. This lead to some brief road closures especially in Herkimer and Washington Counties.
