Wider weather episode
As a low pressure system exited the High Plains, high winds developed on the back side of the low with winds out of the northwest. Sporadic gusts up to 64 mph were reported across several counties in Northwest Kansas, with the peak gusts occurring in Sherman and Wallace counties. These strong winds also created a dust storm that impacted the area with patchy to, at times, isolated visibility reductions of one-quarter mile and less in Sherman, Thomas, Wallace, and Greeley counties.
