Event narrative

The Ohio River at Ashland rose above flood stage shortly after midnight on the 15th of April. The river continued to rise to a crest of around 52 feet later that morning and then eased back below flood stage that evening. Minor flooding of roads in low lying areas near Catlettsburg occurred during the time the Ohio River was above its flood stage.

Wider weather episode

After several days of heavy rain from thunderstorms across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic region, water drained down the Ohio River. During the early morning hours of April 15th, the river gauge at Ashland denoted a rise above flood stage and remained the case until later that evening. This resulted in minor flooding in the Catlettsburg area during that time.
