Event narrative

The gauge along the Ohio River at Pomeroy indicated a rise above flood stage on the night of April 13th. The river crested around 47 feet the next afternoon and then fell back below flood stage late in the morning on the 15th. While above flood stage, parking lots in Pomeroy and the river amphitheater flooded, as well as secondary roads due to backwater.

Wider weather episode

An advancing low pressure system entered into the Ohio Valley on April 11th and set forth strong thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Storms tracked through initially early in the afternoon, stirring up strong winds that blew down a tree near the town of Ironton. As multiple rounds of showers and storms pressed across Ohio, heavy downpours over already saturated soils drained into the local creeks and streams and resulted in river flooding beginning that evening. Flooding eventually stemmed into the Ohio River on the 13th as water flowed down from New York and Pennsylvania, where heavy rain also occurred. Several gauges along the Ohio River from Willow Island Lock, Marietta, and Pomeroy rose above flood stage, resulting in flooded streets in the nearby towns. The river returned below flood at all three locations on April 14th and 15th.
