Event narrative
Two mesonet sites reported wind gusts over 64 MPH over a 15 minute period. One location, south-southeast of Norton reported a 67 MPH gust. Impacts were high winds causing hazardous driving conditions.
Wider weather episode
A low pressure system entered northwestern Kansas on the 6th and quickly moved east. There was a steep pressure rise as the low was leaving the area through the 7th. This sharp change in pressure caused winds to gust up to 72 MPH at Goodland. These winds kicked up blowing dust, creating brownout conditions and causing vehicle accidents.
