Event narrative

A severe thunderstorm produced a downburst with winds estimated at 95 mph in Millersburg with damage extending from Millersburg Area High School with damage continuing towards Landfill Road on the east side of Millersburg. The press box at the school's athletic field was blown off supporting metal beams and damaged along with a small ticket office on the other side of the field. Sporadic wind damage continued to be observed along and east of State Route 25 with multiple instances of snapped and uprooted trees.

Wider weather episode

A surface warm front stationed south in northern Maryland began moving northward into central Pennsylvania during the afternoon of June 29, 2024 and continued progressing north through the evening hours. Ample instability coupled with very favorable low-level shear parameters allowed for severe thunderstorms along and ahead of the warm front.
