Low pressure and an associated cold front rapidly moving from central South Dakota into eastern North Dakota generated high winds across central and northeast South Dakota with a peak wind gust of 63 mph at the Pierre Regional Airport and 62 mph at the Department of Transportation weather station 9 mile north northwest of Vivian. 4 other weather stations in central and northeast South Dakota observed a wind speed in excess of 60 mph.
