Mesonet station MTSWT Sweetgrass MTDOT measured sustained winds, averaged over an hour, of 41 mph between 215 and 315 AM MDT. Additionally, the sensor measured a 62 mph gust at 430 AM MDT.
Wider weather episode
A seasonably strong surface low developed across the plains of North-central Montana, which allowed for a period of strong winds on the western periphery of the surface low.
