Wider weather episode
A very strong low pressure system was wrapping up and becoming occluded across the Upper Great Lakes and southern Ontario on the morning of May 22. As the system continued to strengthen and slowly move northeast, a cold front extending southward through much of the conus continued to track eastward towards the Commonwealth. The strong push of warm/unstable air into the region triggered showers and thunderstorms during the day, ahead of the approaching front. One of these storms that moved across Wayne County produced wind damage, severe hail, and an isolated instance of flash flooding. Meanwhile, in neighboring Pulaski County, public relayed a report to the media of 4 inches of rain falling within a 1 hour period as the storm passed through. Ironically, no additional reports of flooding were made here.
