Low pressure over south central Canada and high pressure nudging into western South Dakota generated strong wind gusts across central, north central and northeast South Dakota on both June 5th and June 6th. A peak wind gust of 61 mph was recorded at the Summit Department of Transportation weather station, with gusts of 59 mph and 58 mph observed with mesonet weather stations run by the Department of Transportation near Foster Bay and 4 miles north of Altamont respectively.
