Upper-level ridging prevailed from the southwest U.S. eastward across the southern states. Moisture pooled along a stalled frontal boundary across the Mid-South with dewpoints rising into the upper 70s. The abundance of moisture combined with temperatures around 100 degrees resulted in widespread high heat indices.
