Drought — Beaver, Oklahoma

2024-06-01 to 2024-06-25 · Beaver, Oklahoma

Event narrative

At the beginning of the month roughly 80 to 90 percent of Beaver County was in Severe Drought (D2). A wet pattern starting in the end of May and beginning of June shrank the area of D2 to the west central part of the county, just outside of the town of Beaver within the first week of June. A break in the rains occurred with another wet pattern about mid month and the rest of D2 being wiped out along with much of the county leaving the Moderate Drought (D1) category as well. An Oklahoma mesonet located near Beaver measured a grand total of 9.27 for the month of June. This allowed for all drought categories around Beaver and western parts of the county to be completely wiped out. The mesonet near Slapout received 6.18 and a small area of D1 stayed in the southeast corner of the county.

Wider weather episode

Soil moisture across the northeastern TX Panhandle and eastern OK Panhandle remained very short to short going into the month of June. Beneficial rainfall finally showed up in June. This help bring improvements and got rid of much of the moderate (D1) to severe (D2) drought in this region.
