Event narrative

The Gunnison Island mesonet station began to record wind gusts at or above 58 mph (initial of 64 mph) at 7:35 pm MST, increasing to a peak wind gust of 76 mph at 7:45 pm MST, with a final severe wind gust of 69 mph recorded at 8:55 pm MST. These wind gusts were the result of outflow winds associated with a nearby cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the area.

Wider weather episode

Sufficient moisture in combination with a shortwave impulse brushing by the area resulted in numerous strong thunderstorm wind gusts in addition to isolated instances of flash flooding.
