Event narrative

The Hansel Valley mesonet station recorded an initial peak wind gust of 66 mph at 4:00 pm MST, followed by a gust of 61 mph at 4:10 pm MST, and a final severe gust of 59 mph at 4:20 pm MST. These gusts were the result of outflow winds associated with a line of thunderstorms collapsing overhead.

Wider weather episode

Sufficient moisture in combination with a shortwave impulse brushing by the area resulted in numerous strong thunderstorm wind gusts in addition to isolated instances of flash flooding.
