Wind gust was measured on a personal weather station in Rodanthe via WeatherFlow.

A surface trough was moving eastwards across the Coastal Plain on the morning of August 2nd. Out ahead of this trough isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms developed along the coast and then tracked northeastwards across the coastal waters north of Ocracoke Inlet. A few of these storms became strong to severe in nature bringing damaging wind gusts to the coastal waters.
